CAF Champions League: Sundowns crash out, Al Ahly progress to semis”

Masandawana crashed out of the CAF Champions League over the weekend in a devastating penalty shoot-out defeat to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, while SuperSport progressed in dramatic circumstances thanks to a last-minute Thuso Phala goal.

The Egyptian champions drew 2-2 in their home leg and then fell behind to Taha Khenissi's penalty on the road, but second-half strikes from Ali Maaloul and Junior Ajayi secured safe passage to the semi-finals.

All of the Sundowns' focus will now turn to domestic football where they will be hoping to get their hands on the South Africa ABSA Premiership title for the eighth time.

Sundowns won the first leg 1-0 against the Moroccan club, but were denied what appeared to be genuine goalscoring moments as the match officials in charge ruled them out for various infringements.

After 90 minutes of play, which ended one goal apiece, Wydad, the former club of Liberian global striker, William Jebor, advanced to the semifinals with a 3-2 win from the penalty spot.

During the penalties, Wydad had to rely on the accuracy of shooting of his players and its goal keeper Zouhir Laaroubi who blocked Sundowns's fourth kick.

On Friday FUS failed to preserve its win in the first leg over the Tunisian team Sfaxi 1-0. The stalemate was enough to secure Alger a place in the semis.
