Diego Costa without attitude - Alvaro Morata era dawns at Chelsea

Diego Costa without attitude - Alvaro Morata era dawns at Chelsea”

Morata scored a hat-trick for Chelsea as the Blues dispatched Stoke City 4-0 in the English Premier League on Saturday.

It meant that Morata equalled Costa's club-record of being involved in eight goals in his first six Premier League appearances for Chelsea, as the former Juventus striker has already struck six times since arriving in England, as well as notching two assists.

The 24-year-old was also able to shake a scoring monkey off his back against Stoke, as he found the target for the first time with his feet.

If there was any remaining sadness over Diego Costa's exit from Chelsea, which was finally resolved this week, Morata ensured his compatriot was forgotten on Saturday.

Stoke missed a hatful of good chances in the second-half, especially through Fletcher and Choupo-Moting, and were punished for their lack of efficiency through Morata's late double - which completed his hat-trick.

"The most important thing is we won today".

His impressive form has also helped Conte deflect endless questions about Diego Costa, who on Thursday was confirmed as returning to Atletico Madrid on loan in January with a commitment to buy for £58m next summer after spending three months in acrimonious exile in Brazil. He scored three goals.

Andre Gray earlier scored his first goal for Watford before Tammy Abraham came off the bench to level the game.

If anyone thought the Premier League title race was a battle between Manchesters United and City, Chelsea made sure to redress the balance on Saturday.

"He adapted very well to this league, now he needs to continue to work because he has only just started down this path". I repeat it's not simple to win away against them.

"I think Eden is improving a lot and in contention for the game (in Madrid)", Conte said.

Conte reckons "very polite" Morata can be more aggressive on the field, an aspect of the game Costa relished.

"About this issue, we want to thank him for what he did with this club".
