ECP reserves vedict in contempt of court case against Imran”

Abbasi filed the petition in the apex court in May this year, seeking disqualification of PTI chairman Imran Khan and another party leader Jahangir Tareen for tax evasion and concealing income sources.

Election Commission of Pakistan, after listening to the judgment, reserved its verdict in the case and will announce it on 27th September.

The documents were submitted to substantiate the ruling party's claims that Imran Khan had received funds from the sources prohibited under the law. He said that PTI chief was scared due to the development agenda of the PML-N government as power loadshedding and terrorism would be completely eliminated in 2018.

During today's hearing, Imran's lawyer Babar Awan submitted an advocate letter on behalf of his client, however, perturbed by the continued absence of PTI supremo, the court adjourned the hearing of the case until October 9, giving Imran a last chance to submit a response. Khan argued that the matter should have been settled after the submission of apology. "My counsel appeared as pleader/advocate with full authority to act on my behalf to set at rest the liss/contempt proceeding", reads Khan's written reply. The ECP had directed Khan to submit his reply by September 25.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb has said Imran Khan is misleading and telling lie before the nation regarding respect of the judiciary.

Awan also submitted the order of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), suspending the arrest warrants for the PTI chief issued by the ECP.

The petition's lawyer, however, argued Khan failed to apologize despite being given 13 opportunities.
