Gas prices dropping in northern New England

Gas prices dropping in northern New England”

Gas prices will be continuing to fall this week, although not as quickly as some would wish.

The national average for a gallon of gas is now $2.57, according AAA.

Still, DeHaan notes that motorists are asking why gas prices haven't come back down to pre-Harvey levels.

"For the second straight week, nearly every state saw average gasoline prices fall notably as refineries continue to heal after Harvey and work on restoring production of motor fuels", GasBuddy Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said.

Gasoline prices are slowly but steadily falling after they previously skyrocketed in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

AAA also expects prices to retreat as demand drops with the end of the summer driving season and the switch to winter-blend gasoline takes effect.

The national average has fallen 5.5 cents in the last week to $2.55 per gallon.

But the $2.46 average in the First State this week is still much higher than a year ago when it stood at $2.19.

The latest survey from GasBuddy shows average retail gasoline prices in ME fell 10 cents per gallon in last week, averaging $2.56 on Sunday.

But fuel prices are stubbornly clinging to higher costs, despite the slow declines.
