Jennifer Lopez Donates $1 Million to Puerto Rico Relief Efforts”

To be hosted by Mario Kreutzberger and Don Francisco, the telethon is to support people impacted by recent earthquakes in Mexico, and Hurricanes Maria, Harvey and Irma in Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida. It's killed at least 24 people, and it still continues to damage infrastructure throughout the region as a Category 2 hurricane.

Jennifer Lopez joined New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mets pitcher Seth Lugo, and actress Rosie Perez today to support relief efforts for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean after Hurricane Irma and Maria.

Lopez was born in the Bronx, New York, to Puerto Rican parents and has family that lives on the island.

He added: "We will speak with one voice...and the message is simple, Puerto Rico needs help, it needs federal help, and it needs it now".

"This was the strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in almost 20 years and the damage is frightful", Lopez told a news conference with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

"Instead of arguing with football players", Cuomo said, "put the politics aside and focus on the Americans that are in desperate need".

Lopez also announced that working with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Mavs player J.J. Barea, the group has two plane filled with supplies ready to fly to San Juan when air travel is cleared.

New York-based airline JetBlue also promised $1 million in-kind by transporting people and cargo for relief efforts. "The devastation is beyond belief", she said.

Earlier, in an Instagram post, J.Lo urged fans to donate to Puerto Rico First Lady Beatriz Areizaga's United for Puerto Rico relief fund.
