NAB court to file charges against Ishaq Dar on September 27”

A copy of the case documents was provided by the court to Dar.

Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar today appeared before an accountability court here inconnection with the Panama Papers scandal and submitted surety bonds worth Rs 1 million to secure his bail. The judge also directed Dar to appear before the court on September 25.

Dar's counsel urged the court to be allowed one week for scrutiny of corruption references filed against him which are spread over 23 volumes.

Last week, the accountability court issued bailable arrest warrants against Dar.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday showed up in an accountability court to face a graft case filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income, ARY News reported.

Dar, along with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had returned to Pakistan from the United Kingdom last night. In compliance with the court orders, a NAB team had visited his residence in the capital to execute his arrest warrants, but his staff received summons since he was overseas. "Since Dar is already overseas, the officials handed over the warrants along with the court summons to his staff", said a statement from the bureau.

Upon being requested by the counsel to extend time for framing of charges (indictment) as bulk of record has to be perused, Judge Muhammad Bashir quipped, "will you plead guilty when charges would be framed?"

It is to be mentioned here that federal minister didn't appear before the court on September 20 after which his bailable arrest warrant was issued.

On Sept 12, the apex court took up review petitions against the July 28 judgement and dismissed the petitions within four days.
