Nawaz Sharif chairs meeting with close aides after returning to Pakistan

Nawaz Sharif chairs meeting with close aides after returning to Pakistan”

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Safdar are set to return to Pakistan and have confirmed their seats.

He was staying there to look after his ailing wife, Kalsoom Nawaz, who is getting cancer treatment.

Earlier after making his return to Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif presided over a consultative meeting of PML-N at Punjab House in Islamabad. He asserted that PML-N chairman did not go to London with his won wish rather he was there for his wife's medical treatment. He said Nawaz Sharif would appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) tomorrow (Tuesday) as he had always respected Courts.

In his remarks, Sharif continued to question the court's decision to disqualify him. He said the former prime minister will hold a press conference after his appearance in the court.

Asif Kirmani said he felt sorrow for those who had been talking negatively about the return of Nawaz Sharif.

Nawaz Sharif spoke to reporters before his departure and criticised the opposition, especially Pak¬is¬tan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for claiming that the ousted premier had left to escape accountability in the references filed against him.

Back in July, a five-judge Supreme Court bench disqualified then PM Nawaz Sharif in a unanimous verdict in the Panamagate case, thus cutting short his third stint in power.

The anti-graft body last week froze the bank accounts and seized properties of Sharif and his family members to put pressure on them to appear before the court.

Khawaja Haris, one of the lawyers for the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case, also advised the family to join NAB proceedings a couple of days ago.

Maryam Nawaz while praising the valour and courage of his father tweeted that Sharif chose to return to Pakistan knowing that what he faces is not accountability. "It is the battle of 200 million (Pakistanis)", she said in a tweet. It is not about his person anymore. "Not everyone can do that". He was accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

An accountability court issued arrest warrants for Dar in a corruption case against him after he failed to appear for his hearing on September 20.
