West Signals It's Wary of Iran's Ballistic Missile Test”

State-run Press TV broadcast a footage of the launch of the Khoramshahr missile, which was first displayed at a high-profile military parade on Friday with President Hassan Rouhani and senior military officials in attendance.

We will strengthen our missile capabilities.

Rouhani was speaking at a military parade where an Iranian news agency said one of the weapons on display was a new ballistic missile with range of 2,000 km, capable of carrying several warheads.

One major sticking point of the JCPOA is that Iran has been "called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology".

Trump has, on several occasions, vowed to take a tougher line toward Iran than his predecessor, and threatened to renegotiate or even dismantle the nuclear deal, and shoot Iranian boats out of the water if they provoke United States naval vessels in the Persian Gulf.

"If we take a look at student textbooks in (13) 30s and (13) 40s [falling on 1950s and 60s] except for some pictures and the cover the content has not changed much", Rouhani regretted. Iran has other missiles of this range in its arsenal.

The Iran nuclear deal was orchestrated by the Obama administration and put strains on USA relations with enemies of Iran, including Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Rouhani said his first request from the country's minister of education in his recently-inaugurated cabinet had been to help students learn a profession within the 12-year-long school process so they can begin working in the society, should they choose not to pursue academic education.

Friday's parade also showcased various Iranian army units and Revolutionary Guard forces, as well as the police.

At the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump said Iran was building its missile capability and accused it exporting violence to Yemen, Syria and other parts of the Middle East.

The report by the FARS agency says that as "one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space", Iran is "entitled to master the technology of launching satellites into orbit". "(France) will consider with its partners, notably European, the means to obtain from Iran the cessation of its destabilizing ballistic activities".

Iran maintains that testing non-nuclear ballistic missiles is not a violation of the JCPOA.

"But it is no good talking about this if the United States is not honoring the nuclear agreement", he said.
