Atleti agrees deal to re-sign Diego Costa

Atleti agrees deal to re-sign Diego Costa”

It was confirmed on Thursday that Chelsea and Atletico Madrid had finally agreed a deal for Diego Costa.

However, things turned sour between the player and Blues boss Antonio Conte, and the Brazilian-born striker has spoken of his relief to return "home".

However, if given the choice, Neville would still pick Costa, who netted 59 goals in only 120 games for the west London club.

Atletico said: "Atletico de Madrid and Chelsea have reached an initial agreement for the transfer of Diego Costa".

Costa last played a competitive match in Chelsea's 2-1 FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal in May, when he scored the Premier League champions' equaliser.

Further attempts to discuss Costa, giving Conte the opportunity to reflect on their successful working relationship, were met with a similar response.

"He is gradually showing what he wants to convey to the team, with collective work in recovery, different players in the middle like [Guido] Pizarro, [Steven] N'Zonzi and [Ever] Banega".

"I don't forget that we won together last season".

Costa will not be able to play for Diego Simeone's team until January as Atletico serve a FIFA-imposed player registration ban.

Pedro is fit following a leg problem, while midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko was involved in a minor vehicle accident on his way home from training on Thursday but was uninjured.

Chelsea travel to Stoke in Premier League action on Saturday and Conte said Belgium playmaker Eden Hazard is now fit to feature regularly after ankle surgery.

This was after Mark Hughes's side picked up four points from two games against Arsenal and Manchester United. I think he played with good intensity. "Now his injury has been overcome", Conte said. "There are more games coming and we have to be ready".
