Dyson Is Building An Electric Car

Dyson Is Building An Electric Car”

It's not going to be a cheap endeavor as Dyson will be investing $2.6 billion in this project.

Dyson says that the auto will look "radical and different", and be aimed at the higher end of the market, bringing it into competition with Tesla. Dyson is building electric cars.

Dyson has previously bought solid state battery company Sakti3, which develops the kind of technology required by an electric vehicle.

Dyson has ample experience in battery and digital motor technology.

The entry was quickly changed and Dyson declined to comment at the time in a sign of the secrecy shrouding the project. The motor is claimed to be designed and ready to go, while the car's design is still being worked on.

Dyson has confirmed plans for an all-electric vehicle that will enter production in Britain by 2020 and has received support from the UK Government. The U.K. government has given Dyson a 16 million-pound grant to help it do battery research.

According to Sir James Dyson, a team at his company began work on a cyclonic filter that could be fitted to a vehicle's exhaust system "to trap particulates" back in March 1990, but the project was stopped a few years later, as "nobody at the time was interested" in the system. Dyson employs about 4,000 in the United Kingdom.

One of the biggest impediments to electric vehicle adoption has been the lack of charging infrastructure, and some manufacturers including Tesla are building station networks.

"Tesla has $5 billion, I don't have that kind of money", he said.

Musk has long welcomed competition in the electric-vehicle space, saying it will help speed the growth of sustainable transportation. Today, only a handful of homes have these hook-ups. Wyer was the second Aston Martin executive in as many years to head to Dyson after product development director Ian Minards moved to the same role at the Wiltshire-based company. Dyson now makes products in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. "You'll have to wait and see, we're trying to be radical", he said.

The announcement could stoke debate in Australia over the subsidisation and slow adoption of electric cars.
