Ivanka Trump Used a Personal Email Account for White House Business, Too”

(R to L) Former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, former chief strategist Steve Bannon, and advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner all reportedly used private email servers to discuss government business.

Trump, who faced Clinton previous year in the race for the White House, criticized the former secretary of state numerous times for her use of private email, leading supporters on chants of "Lock her up" and insisting that her actions were illegal.

On Monday, legal watchdog group American Oversight published a batch of emails between Ivanka Trump and the Small Business Administration (SBA) acquired under the Freedom of Information Act. At the time, Ivanka Trump was not a federal employee but was "operating inside the White House in a nonofficial capacity", Newsweek reported.

It is not illegal for administration staffers to use private email accounts if work-related messages are forwarded to work accounts for preservation, the Times said.

Copied on the correspondence are: Dina Powell, the United States deputy national security advisor for strategy; Julie Radford, Ivanka Trump's chief of staff; and Mary Bradfield, McMahon's chief of staff. In them, Ms Radford has a White House email account. "While Mrs. Clinton used her personal account exclusively, the official said that Mr. Kushner does use his government account".

On Sept. 24, four individuals familiar with Kushner's email disclosed that the special adviser had established a private family account for his online correspondence during the White House presidential transition in December 2016, Politico reports. That revelation prompted Rep Elijah Cummings to launch an investigation, with the Maryland Democrat writing Mr Kushner a letter asking the president's son-in-law to "preserve all official records and copies of records in your custody or control". On Jan. 27, a survey conducted by Public Policy Polling found that 42 percent of self-identified Trump voters believed that Trump should be allowed to use a private email account after he assumed the presidency while 39 percent said he should not, according to New York Daily News.

The emails usually concerned media coverage and event planning, according to Politico, who first reported the story.

Kushner told Politico that to comply with the law, he had forwarded all emails containing government business to his official White House account-there's no way to verify if that's true, however. "Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account".

During the presidential campaign Donald Trump frequently excoriated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for using a personal server during her time as secretary of state, saying she should be punished with prison time and leading chants of "Lock Her Up"!
