North Korea says Trump has 'declared war'”

The White House on Monday denied North Korea's claim that US President Donald Trump had declared war on the country, saying the suggestion is "absurd".

The Trump administration also said it was not advocating regime change in North Korea.

On Monday, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho told reporters in NY that the president's comments were a declaration of war, giving North Korea a right to self defense.

The White House on Monday firmly pushed back on reports that North Korea's top diplomat thinks that President Donald Trump declared war with his tweet about Kim Jong Un this weekend.

"The question of who will be around much longer will be answered then". "This is about the president and millions of Americans standing for something", Sanders said.

"In light of the declaration of war by Trump, all options will be on the operations table of the supreme leadership of the DPRK".

Speaking from Washington where she will meet senior Trump administration officials, Ms Bishop told ABC radio today Australia's response to the regime had not changed. She said the flag is "something that should bring us together, not divide us".

"All the member states and the whole world should clearly remember it was the United States that first declared war on our country", Mr Ri said.

The controversy kicked off Friday evening at Trump's rally in Alabama, when he called for players to be fired if they disrespected the flag.

In his first speech at the UN General Assembly on September 19, Trump threatened that the USA "will have no choice than to totally destroy" the country unless Pyongyang refrains from its nuclear tests and missile launches. Under the US Constitution, Congress is the sole power that can declare war.

This one's probably just a war of words then.

North Korea has repeatedly said it needs a nuclear deterrent because the USA intends to invade it.

The Pentagon said the mission was a "demonstration of United States resolve and a clear message that the president has many military options to defeat any threat".

Mr Ri told the UN General Assembly on Saturday that the Pyongyang's recent "ICBM-mountable H-bomb test" was a key step to completing its nuclear force.
