Uber appeases unhappy drivers by boosting pay for shared Pool rides

Uber appeases unhappy drivers by boosting pay for shared Pool rides”

"The claim brought at the Central London Employment Tribunal argues that Uber should allow drivers to challenge complaints and low ratings, so that drivers do not risk losing their jobs if they ask passengers to leave their cars for their own safety". In San Francisco, drivers will receive $1 for each additional pickup after the first rider is on board.

Whether you tip your driver every time or you've accidentally slammed a few auto doors here and there, this new Uber update is going to make the rating system much more interesting.

Uber has been accused of sex discrimination by a female British driver, the latest in a chain of legal battles the Californian ride-hailing firm is facing in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Despite the service's limited availability to 13 cities and all of New Jersey, UberPOOL "rises to the top of the list of drivers' concerns, and we hear about it a lot", said Rachel Holt, Uber's vice president of operations for the United States and Canada.

"The value that Uber has delivered to cities and riders has been pretty clear, we haven't done enough to do the same for drivers", said Rachel Holt, VP of Business Operations for U.S. and Canada.

Harry Campbell, an Uber and Lyft driver in Los Angeles and author of The Rideshare Guy blog, said the extra money represented an improvement in a program many drivers try to avoid.

"It's tough for me to say if it's going to be worth it until I get out there and drive and see how it works", said Campbell.

"Once again we have a member with serious concerns about Uber's systems and practices which place the basic safety needs of the worker as secondary to the imposition of a rigid and purely profit-based model", Maria Ludkin, GMB legal director, said. Previously, drivers earned a lower rate for Lyft Line rides. Both companies - and many transportation experts - see shared rides as essential for reducing gridlock in increasingly dense and crowded cities.

Now with the latest enhancement to the driver experience, Uber drivers will make an extra flat fare every time they make an additional pickup.

The lawsuit is among several developments that are increasing pressure on San Francisco-based Uber.

The company will put more effort into educating riders on how Pool works, including reminding them to be at their pickup spot before the vehicle arrives.

■ Trips will have 20 percent fewer turns and straighter routes, aimed at saving gasoline and time. Working off the assumption that no one likes IRL confrontation, drivers can now choose from a preselected list of reasons to explain why they rated a passenger as less than five stars.

These changes are part of the company's overall "180 days of change" apology tour that it hopes will help shore up its relations to its drivers and riders.
