Auburn suspends coach accused of taking bribe

Auburn suspends coach accused of taking bribe”

Auburn Assistant Basketball Coach Chuck Person has been arrested and faces sex federal charges including, bribery conspiracy, solicitation of bribes and gratuities, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and travel act conspiracy, according to court documents.

Kim said Person told players that the financial adviser, who was a cooperating witness with the U.S. Attorneys, knew and worked with Auburn sports star Charles Barkley.

News Service reported that the coaches "were caught taking thousands of dollars in bribes to steer NBA-destined college stars toward certain sports agents and financial advisers, authorities said".

Three other notable NCAA basketball coaches have also been arrested including, Lamont Evans (Oklahoma State), Tony Bland (USC) and Bool Richardson (Arizona).

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said Tuesday the charges followed a two-year investigation into criminal influence in NCAA basketball.

A two-year FBI investigation into kickbacks and corruption at the highest levels of United States college basketball has borne fruit.

Others charged include Merl Code, the head of Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League and Christian Dawkins, an ex-sports agent who was sacked earlier this year for charging over $42,000 in Uber rides to an unnamed NBA player's credit card.

The player was also expected to sign with Adidas upon turning professional, prosecutors said.

Jeff Duffey, a lawyer for Person, declined to comment.

It was not immediately clear who will represent the coaches in court.

The charging documents allege that Person and bespoke suit maker Rashan Michel, founder of the Atlanta-based company Thompson Bespoke Clothing, conspired as part of the scheme.

University issues statement in response to allegations against associate head coach Chuck Person.

Person, according to the documents, told one player, "don't share this with your sisters, don't share this with any of the teammates, that's very important cause this is a violation. but this is how the National Basketball Association players get it done".

Court papers describe a secretly recorded meeting at a Manhattan hotel last December where Person told an Auburn player that he knew some of his help was "a violation ... of rules, but this is how the National Basketball Association players get it done, they get early relationships, and they form partnerships, they form trust". We are saddened, angry and disappointed.

"We are committed to playing by the rules, and that's what we expect from our coaches", he said. "The main significance is whether this probe involves just these charges, or turns into a much bigger investigation".
