China to limit oil supplies to North Korea

China to limit oil supplies to North Korea”

China is imposing new limits on trade with North Korea after the isolated country's latest nuclear test.

The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on its website that China would limit exports of refined petroleum products from October 1 and ban exports of condensates and liquefied natural gas immediately to comply with the latest United Nations sanctions.

Beijing has halted its imports of coal, iron ore, seafood and other goods, implementing United Nations sanctions imposed on North Korea for its provocative nuclear and missile tests.

Refined oil exports to North Korea from all United Nations members is capped at 500,000 barrels from October 1 to the end of the year and 2 million barrels annually from January 1, 2018.

It would ban exports of liquefied natural gas to the North immediately as well.

The Ministry of Commerce said it will implement UN Security Council Resolution 2375 by halting the export of liquefied natural gas and gas condensate to North Korea from today and limit exports of refined oil from October 1.

According to Trump, the U.S. Treasury Department will also begin identifying new industries that it can target with strong sanctions, such as the manufacturing, fishing, and textiles industries.

The new sanctions from the Trump administration come two days after Trump told the United Nations that the USA would "totally destroy" North Korea if leader Kim Jong Un does harm to the US or its allies.

But Beijing fears pressuring Kim's regime into collapse, triggering a flood of refugees across its border and eliminating a strategic buffer separating China from the USA military in South Korea.

The North accuses the United States, which has 28,500 troops in South Korea, of planning to invade and regularly threatens to destroy it and its Asian allies.

Lu was speaking after United States President Donald Trump signed a new order to boost sanctions against Pyongyang. Kim had previously described the United States president as a "mentally deranged dotard" in response to Trump's earlier, fiery speech at the UN.

There have been so many rounds of sanctions against North Korea that it can be hard to keep track. Previous North Korean undermining of agreements resulted in no serious cost and instead spurred Washington and its allies to offer further negotiations. Reuters reported that North Korean ships have headed home from Russian Federation carrying fuel, despite the ships declaring they were headed somewhere else. So we're doing more of the same.

"North Korea has continued to make provocations, and this is extremely deplorable, and this has angered me and our people", President Moon said. Because they feel under threat and under siege'.
