IN police shoot at actor playing bank robber”

A police body camera captured the encounter Tuesday between an officer and an actor portraying an armed robber outside a local brewery.

A movie scene being filmed at a Crawfordsville bar was mistaken for an armed robbery.

IN state police said officers in Crawfordsville were responding to a report of a possible robbery at Backstep Brewing on Tuesday evening when they encountered actor Jim Duff.

Police yelled at Duff to drop the fake gun and when he turned around, an officer fired a shot, missing the actor. He then told the officers they were on the set of a movie production. When Crawfordsville police arrived on the scene they saw a masked "subject" backing out of the door of the bar and holding a gun, state police said.

Duff was facing away from the officers when they ordered him to drop his weapon. It must have been realistic, because someone called 911 to report a possible armed robbery, and when Crawfordsville police arrived, "a subject came out with a ski mask on carrying a handgun, and a shot was sacked by police", a statement from ISP said.

Police said neither the production company nor the bar owners notified police or local businesses about the film shoot.

No one was injured. Duff was initially taken into custody until his story was authenticated, and he was released. Neither Crawfordsville police, nor Montgomery County Movies responded to requests for comment.

"Had it been a real robbery, the police were quick to the scene, and the situation would have been diffused promptly". The movie crew was inside the building and could not be seen from the street. Montgomery County Movies is now working with local law enforcement to put a plan in place so this doesn't happen again.

The Indiana State Police out of the Lafayette Post were called by Crawfordsville Police Department at about 8 p.m. Tuesday to investigate the shooting.
