Meeting to plan for migration from storm-ravaged Puerto Rico

Virginia's first lady is spearheading an effort to provide relief to those in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria.

Gomez said he had to work when the hurricane was hitting the island, but his thoughts were with his parents and younger brother who still live in Puerto Rico. It has 3,000 containers sitting at the Port of San Juan filled with clothes, food, medicine, water, construction materials and even cars. The flight line there can accommodate military jets, freeing the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport near San Juan to accept commercial flights to and from the US mainland. "And I let her talk and tell me they were OK". Furthermore, there is lack of fuel on the island and so there are a limited number of trucks available to move the goods around. "And at the airport there's tons of aid coming in right now as well but it's just they can't distribute it because lack of infrastructure and communications".

Marietta Vazquez fielded phone calls and messages as she organized a shipment of medical supplies to Puerto Rico.

Heavy damage to the roads and computer systems is being resolved, but slowly, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This organization has created a fund to send money directly to the PR Foundations Network, which includes hundreds of community non-profits in Puerto Rico.

"I don't have the freaking energy to write a memo", Cruz said.

Nydia a Rafael Mendez retired to Florida, Puerto Rico, 14 years ago.

She wants to bring awareness to the millions in need.

McAuliffe said she didn't think twice about lending her support to people suffering in Puerto Rico. Wednesday morning's flight was American Airlines' second from Philadelphia to San Juan since Maria hit.

Army Reserve units stationed at Joint Base Charleston are providing storage for items collected and will fly them to Puerto Rico, Altagracia said. "We still need more, and the president understands that and his team understands that". "However, I am very concerned by the department's decision not to waive the Jones Act for current relief efforts in Puerto Rico, which is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis following Hurricane Maria".
