'Political terrorism': Venezuela slams U.S. travel ban as new act of aggression”

Earlier, his foreign ministry had said that "these types of lists... are incompatible with worldwide law and constitute in themselves a form of psychological and political terrorism".

Venezuela has been rocked by months of economic chaos and deadly protests as Maduro tries to consolidate control, including through a new Constituent Assembly that has wrested power from the opposition-dominated legislature.

How does Venezuela fit in?

Unlike the total prohibitions imposed on citizens of North Korea and Chad, Venezuelans are limited at this time to officials of a specific number of government entities, and their immediate family members with nonimmigrant work visas (B-1), tourism (B-2) and both (B1 / B2).

The addition of new countries to the extended USA travel ban, including Venezuela, is an act of "political and psychological terrorism", the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Most of the nations affected by the ban were part of an original travel ban on Muslim countries Mr Trump authorised shortly after taking office.

The measures make no mention of changes for Venezuelans who have obtained the status of temporary residence or permanent residence, but instruct the immigration authorities "to take additional measures to ensure the validity of the information provided by Venezuelan citizens" that they already have United States visas.

In its statement Monday, Venezuela's foreign ministry said it condemns terrorism in all its forms.

Venezuela's top diplomat accused U.S. President Donald Trump Monday of acting like "the world's emperor", batting back Trump's biting rebukes of Venezuela on the global stage of the U.N. General Assembly. Trump had said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was running a "corrupt regime".

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said today at the United Nations that his country does not consider the United States its enemy and also that Venezuela is willing to hold talks with the US Government, despite its hostile policy.

Last week, Trump told the assembly Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was running a "corrupt regime".

Last week, he accused Trump of being "racist and supremacist" after Trump told the annual United Nations assembly that the USA was ready to act to restore Venezuela's democracy.

"Venezuela will always deal with the government of the United States with mutual respect", he said, "but as a free people we are prepared to defend our sovereignty, our independence, and our democracy under any scenario and in any way".
