Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle on McCowan Road”

A pedestrian, believed to be in his 70s, is dead after being struck by a auto near Alton Towers condominiums in Scarborough late Thursday.

Police were called to McCowan Road, near Steeles Avenue East, just before 10 p.m. on Thursday. Two other people in another vehicle were taken to local hospital with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, police say that one person has been taken into custody.

Paramedics say that bystanders initially attempted to revive the victim, who was without vital signs.

Birchmount Road is closed from St. Clair Avenue to Newlands Avenue as police investigate the crash.
