Red Sox Fall to Astros 12-2”

Eduardo Rodriguez lasted just 1 2/3 innings and the Red Sox were bulldozed 12-2 by the Astros. Brian McCann also homered for Houston.

RAYS 9, YANKEES 6 Aaron Judge hit his 51st home run to give the Yankees a quick lead, but NY missed a big chance to tighten the AL East race when Sonny Gray and the bullpen fell apart in a loss to visiting Tampa Bay.

INDIANS 5, TWINS 2 Carlos Carrasco struck out 14, Jason Kipnis and Roberto Perez hit two-run homers and host Cleveland notched its 100th victory over understandably sluggish Minnesota, which clinched a wild-card berth earlier in the morning.

Boston can lock up the division with either a win against the Astros tonight or a Yankees loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Red Sox and Astros continue their series on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Eduardo Rodriguez (6-6, 3.91 ERA) starts as the Red Sox try to wrap up the first set of back-to-back AL East titles in franchise history.

The Astros racked up 17 hits in the game en route to a 12-2 win.

Houston had the game in hand after scoring four runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 9-2.

Correa had an RBI ground-rule double, and Gurriel and Maybin slapped RBI singles before Gonzalez trotted home on a passed ball.

The lefty got the first two outs of the second inning before allowing a single then a solo homer.

Notes: Houston RF Josh Reddick (sore back) was not in the lineup, but hopes to play tonight.

The pitching matchup is Boston's Doug Fister against Houston Charlie Morton.
