AFL Grand Final Result: Richmond Tigers thrash Adelaide Crows

AFL Grand Final Result: Richmond Tigers thrash Adelaide Crows”

"This is a dream come true", Martin said. "Best thing in the world".

The Tigers' tackling pressure and selflessness was the key to the victory, but so was the way that every man played his role, including some unforeseen match-winners.

Jack Graham was only teenager playing on Saturday but was not overawed by the occasion, kicking three goals in the opening three quarters, while Jack Riewoldt and the Tigers' army of small forwards harassed Adelaide's defenders all day as Richmond finished with 11 separate goalkickers.

Congratulations Dusty and good luck trying to improve on this season. First on the ladder, the impressively offensive Crows are tipped to win.

Slowly, but surely, the Tigers then took control.

The Crows had been ahead in intercept marks and contested possessions, but the Tigers kept applying pressure, and Jack Graham swooped on the ball deep in time on to kick Richmond's fifth.

Richmond kicked the only four goals of the second term to take a nine-point lead at the main break.

Martin was now dominating and Trent Cotchin was a battering ram at the stoppages.

Crows: B Rory Laird, Daniel Talia, Jake Lever HB Luke Brown, Kyle Hartigan, Jake Kelly C Rory Atkins, Rory Sloane, David Mackay HF Richard Douglas, Taylor Walker, Charlie Cameron F Tom Lynch, Josh Jenkins, Eddie Betts FOL Sam Jacobs, Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch I/C Riley Knight, Paul Seedsman, Hugh Greenwood, Andy Otten.

But Matt Crouch found Rory Sloane with a chip and Sloane kicked straight for the Crows opener.

But Martin's mark and goal - one out near the goal square from the resulting centre bounce - was another level of celebration altogether.

Even more importantly, he quelled Sloane's influence after the Adelaide vice-captain's influential start. This major was important, especially after Jack Riewoldt missed a couple of gettable shots.

David Astbury kept Walker to just two goals and little of his usual influence, while Dylan Grimes and Nick Vlastuin conspired to shut down unsafe goalsneaks Eddie Betts and Charlie Cameron, and Bachar Houli (25 possessions and four rebound 50s) provided much of Richmond's defensive rebound. By this stage Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale, and former Tigers spearhead (now Channel Seven broadcaster) Matthew Richardson were in tears, as the result began to sink in.

Adelaide's ability to transition the ball quickly from defence to offence has Hardwick "concerned".

THE MOMENT: The Tigers entered the fourth term 34 points up, but plenty of nerves remained.

Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin at full forward is frightening. Alex Rance was at his intercepting-best, blanketing the Crows' forays forward, diving and desperate with a sure fist.
