'Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund' launched by Seattle players

'Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund' launched by Seattle players”

To that end, the Seahawks have launched a fund through their players aimed at promoting equality and justice through education and leadership programs.

The Seahawks announced its fund one week after the team skipped the national anthem, following the lead set by former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee during the anthem in 2016 in response to the spike in police shootings of black people.

The entire Seahawks team last week remained in the locker room during the national anthem to make a unified statement against inequality and injustice, but they've also been active in these conversations for a while now.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who suffered a groin strain during last week's loss to the Tennessee Titans, participated in practice on Friday, but remains a game-time decision heading into Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. With several National Football League teams making demonstrations last week following criticism from President Donald Trump, Baldwin called this a "unique and attractive time to do it". "Enough words have been said, enough actions have been shown, and we want to go out there and help as many people as we can who have been affected by divisiveness and inequality".

"It's just another action item for us", Baldwin said of the fund. "So there's a very fine balance there that we've been trying to figure out how to do it". Baldwin said teammate Michael Bennett has proposed several ideas as well.

Baldwin said Wednesday he plans to play, but his absence from practice Wednesday and Thursday suggests he's in serious danger of missing the game.

"It's a very sensitive injury", Baldwin said.

"We always knew that we needed to generate money but we just didn't know how to do it or what it would look like or if we would have complete buy-in from not only the players but also the organization, which we have now", he said.

Carroll said Prosise "ran for the first time" Friday but he's listed as doubtful and "It's going to be hard for him to make it but we'll follow him through this and see what happens". But most of all, I'm excited because they're going to get stuff done. "They really are ready to do the good work".
