Cowboys running back Elliott tells critics to 'shut up'

Cowboys running back Elliott tells critics to 'shut up'”

In addressing anyone who has the mindset that the second-year pro has taken a step back, he has two words for them. His 1,631 yards gave him a 318-yard advantage over the league's No.2 rusher, and he tied a record by rushing for at least 80 yards in each of the final 15 games of the season.

It's early in the season, though, and Elliott feels like the Dallas Cowboys running game has begun to find its stride.

La'el Collins, who was strong as a rookie at left guard in 2015 and even took Leary's job before getting hurt past year, was moved to Free's old position.

Elliott said he thought the way he ran the play led to more yards than he would have doing things another way, but neither that response nor his blunt rebuke mean he thinks the running game is firing on all cylinders. You saw what happened on his 30 yard run - he made an unblocked man miss and they were off to the races.

While Elliott had 104 yards in the opener against the Giants, his per-carry average is just 3.5 yards after he finished at 5.1 past year.

"We've had a little bit of growing pains in the first couple of games, but we're getting there", he said.

That sounds good, of course, but there is still a suspension cloud hanging over Elliott's head.

According to the letter Elliott received informing him of the suspension last month, the National Football League believed he used "physical force" three times in a span of five days in a Columbus, Ohio, apartment in July 2016 resulting in injuries to Thompson's face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, hips and knees.

Elliott's fate could be known as early as next week.

A ruling could come down as early as Monday when the 5th US Circuit of Appeals in New Orleans hears arguments on the NFL's emergency motion for maintaining the suspension. While the legal process plays out, Elliott is allowed to play and will be on the field Sunday when the Cowboys play host to the Rams.

Elliott and the Cowboys, though, continue to do their best to not let that situation infiltrate the locker room.

"We've just tried to stay focused on what's in front of us and what's in our control". The losses are evident, and Elliott isn't getting the holes he was used to seeing.

The running game might not have been pretty most of the night, but it eventually wore the Cardinals defense down enough to get the win.
