Ravens players kneel, pray for 'unity and justice' before national anthem

Ravens players kneel, pray for 'unity and justice' before national anthem”

One example of this behavior came before today's Steelers-Ravens game in Baltimore, when a PA announcement asked fans to join the Ravens in prayer for the embrace of "kindness, unity, equality and justice for all Americans".

Ravens national anthem singer Joey Odoms quit this week because of the fan reaction to player protest.

It's a little jarring to hear fans booing a show of unity before the anthem even started, especially when the players stood and honored the flag during the anthem, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Last week, New England heartily booed the Patriots before and after the anthem, as much of the team took a knee.

Demonstrations continued for a second week following President Trump's criticism of players who kneel during the anthem. Then the team stood for the playing of the "Star Spangled Banner". Although they stood once the anthem began, the players were still booed loudly by fans.

Trump last weekend launched a series of tweets calling for National Football League owners to fire players who do not stand during the anthem and urging the National Football League to implement a rule banning players from kneeling. Trump also referred to players kneeling as "sons of bitches".
