San Juan mayor hits out at Trump official

Bush had been on a fundraising trip and was photographed with John McCain and a birthday cake while New Orleans was underwater and people were stranded on rooftops.

Colonel James DeLapp, the Army Corps of Engineers commander for Puerto Rico, told CNN that rebuilding the island's crippled power grid was a massive undertaking. For days after the storm, Trump and his top aides were largely silent as residents on the island struggled for food and water amid widespread power outages.

"I don't know where that support's coming from or when it's coming, but they do need it now", Watt said.

The media is awash with headlines declaring the US response to Puerto Rico a "Katrina Moment" for President Donald Trump, but the narrative completely ignores the facts on the ground. The death toll is expected to rise.

Trump is out with a series of tweets criticizing San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for criticizing the Trump administration's hurricane response.

Rep. Nydia Velazquez, a New York Democrat who was born in Puerto Rico, said earlier this week that she was "offended and insulted" by Trump's tweet. "We will not let you down".

"The most powerful man in the world is concerned with a 5-foot-tall, 120 pounds little mayor of the city of San Juan", she said, according to the Post.

"When you are drinking from a creek it's not a good news story".

"I am not going to be distracted by small comments, by politics, by petty issues", she said.

"We've made tremendous strides", Trump said.

"We are dying here, and I can not fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world can not figure out logistics for a small island", she said, adding: "(If) we don't get the food and water into people's hands, we are going to see something close to a genocide.

And as the islanders' plight is revealed, the White House risks becoming increasingly exposed politically at a time when it is already being pummeled by a tide of scandal and defeats, including the controversy over Cabinet members using private jets and the latest failed bid to repeal Obamacare. "The nation's mayors are closely monitoring the situation, sending our prayers and are ready to do whatever we can to get Puerto Rico the help they need to rebuild", said USCM Second Vice President Bryan Barnett (Rochester Hills, MI). Trump also reportedly plans to send an aid package to Puerto Rico to Congress sometime in October, but lawmakers have slammed the president for remaining largely silent on the crisis in Puerto Rico.

"Puerto Rico's weak infrastructure will make it hard to provide the aid that it desperately needs", NPR reported on September 22.

"We're certainly bringing in more", Lieutenant General Jeffrey Buchanan told CNN on Friday, a day after he was appointed by the Pentagon.

Thousands more Puerto Ricans have received water and rationed food as an aid bottleneck has begun to ease.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello said political differences shouldn't get in the way of relief work. "I know that better than anybody", he said. "Like other organizations, Americares hasn't yet been able to get anyone into Puerto Rico since the storm", he said. You're going straight to hell.

Cruzita Mojica is an employee of the Puerto Rico Treasury Department in San Juan. Trump waived the Jones Act after other hurricanes hit Texas and Florida, but delayed after Maria hit Puerto Rico, saying he needed to take the concerns of the shipping industry into consideration. The migrants are mostly younger workers, economists have said.

"I've been a resident in Vieques for nearly nine years and we don't want to leave", she said.
