Cops: Deaths of two navy men classified as 'sudden death'”

The family of one of the navy men who died while in detention last Friday says it is considering appointing a lawyer to take action against those responsible for his death and any cover-up by the authorities thereafter.

His widow, 28-year-old Noor Bazlin Mohammad, who is reportedly incredulous over RMN's official account, has pointed out that both men were of Able Seaman rank.

During the training, the two personnel complained of exhaustion and rested and later vomited and experiencing shortness of breath before being confirmed dead by paramedics who arrived at 3.15 pm, RMN said.

"We will now reclassify the case as murder", he said.

"Muhammad Lailal Tuiman was also being detained for not reporting for duty without consent", SAC Gan said. "We will uphold justice, especially for his family", Norliliwati was quoted as saying, referring to Baihaqy's wife and three children, aged four, two and 10 months.

"He told me to take care of the children and he will come home soon".

"I was also informed of Baihaqy's detention by an RMN officer, via a phone call".

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said Baihaqy was on 45-day detention after being found guilty under Section 58 of the Armed Forces Act 1972 for failure to perform his duties.

Muhammad Lailatuliman i, 26, had failed to report for duty without prior leave approval.

He said the two men, from different units, were undergoing "orientation" at the detention centre during fine weather, in accordance with the standard operating procedures.

The police, which had initially classified the case as sudden death, have since reclassified it as murder based on the post-mortem report from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, which had revealed signs of abuse and injuries on their bodies.

Meanwhile, the RMN in a statement today said Nik Muhammad Baihaqy and Muhammad Lailatuiman died in their rooms while undergoing physical training exercises yesterday.

"They returned to the detention unit and appeared to be exhausted".

"The RMN will fully cooperate and assist the investigation", he said in a statement on Sunday.

"The post-mortem report we received on Saturday for Nik Muhammad Baihaqy showed that he died due to bleeding in the lungs caused by blunt force trauma".
