Hleb urges Arsenal fans: Don't give up on Alexis!”

Wantaway Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is believed to be a transfer target for Serie A giants AC Milan, according to reports.

Once the transfer window re-opens, the Chilean striker will be allowed to speak to foreign clubs over the possibility to leave the club, with the 28-year-old's contract set to expire in June.

The Chile global came perilously close to joining Manchester City last month after Arsenal accepted a £60m offer from their Premier League rivals, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute when the Gunners were unable to persuade Thomas Lemar to join them from Monaco.

With only nine months remaining on his current contract at the Emirates, Sanchez's transfer value is plummeting by the week, with Arsenal having to face up to the prospect to losing their most prized asset for free next summer.

Speaking following the game at the Emirates, Owen says there is no way Alexis Sanchez will extend his current deal.

"On one side, if he doesn't want to play for the team you could say it would have been better to sell him for good money".

"He looked professional rather than angry that he didn't get his move to Manchester City".

He explained: "I think he will wait until the winter, see how the team are playing and maybe sign a new contract".

The fact of the matter is that the decision to stay with Arsenal or not is his to make and in the mean time we just need him to perform. It's a great club with huge tradition, great fans and Arsene Wenger as the manager.

Sanchez has only started two Premier League matches so far, with injury limiting him early in the campaign.

Despite their impressive form in recent weeks, Owen insists the Gunners will not have a successful season this term.
