The 'Call the Midwife' actress, 33, revealed she welcomed her daughter earlier than expected, so their newborn was present at the couple's pre-arranged baby shower.

And she wrote in a caption: "When your baby turns up early for her own baby shower, welcome to the world little one".

She shared shots of her and boyfriend Jack Ashton, who also stars in Call The Midwife, cutting the cake with the baby in her arms, and one of Jack cuddling his little girl. "What an wonderful day, we have the best friends", she wrote.

In the adorable pics which announced the birth of their prematurely born baby girl, Helen is posing alongside her partner Jack Ashton and their bundle of joy.

Fans and friends were quick to congratulate the new parents, with one writing: "She's gorgeous! 'Twas ideal x." Another added: "Congratulations to you both, she's absolutely gorgeous and you look attractive too lovely lady". "Can not wait to meet her. Sending all our love xxx".

Helen revealed she was expecting her first child last month after flaunting her bump in a figure-hugging dress at the TV Choice Awards.

The couple met on the set of the BBC period drama while playing loved characters Nurse Trixie Franklin and Reverend Tom Hereward and became loved up while filming a Christmas special for the show in April 2016.

Speaking to breakfast show Lorraine, he said: 'That's the confusing bit - as long as I know where we're going'. Helen and Jack began to get romantic in April, when they were overseas shooting the Call The Midwife Christmas special. Helen has starred in the show since its start in 2012, while Jack joined in series three.

'It blossomed in South Africa I think, around that time, ' he explained.

Jack is the first person Helen has been romantically linked with since splitting from fellow actor Oliver Boot. "Around that time", he commented.
