Jaguar XF Sportbrake Tows Skier at 117 miles per hour in the Frigid Arctic

Jaguar XF Sportbrake Tows Skier at 117 miles per hour in the Frigid Arctic”

Jaguar teamed up with a former Olympic skier called Graham Bell to set a new world record for the Fastest towed speed on skis.

What makes this particularly fearless is he beat the existing record by more than 47mph - he really didn't need to push it so far, or perhaps the driver simply couldn't hear his screams...

After only a couple of practice attempts, Bell and the XF Sportbrake achieved an average top speed of 117 miles per hour (188 kilometers per hour), smashing the previous record by over 47 mph (76 kph).

Temperatures at the Arctic Circle test site were at -28C so it pushed both Bell and the new Sportbrake to the limit, but with four-wheel drive, adaptive surface response and all surface progress control, the latest version of the XF could comfortably drive in the icy conditions.

"We're extremely proud to have supported Graham in this incredible world-beating achievement".

Arriving at dealerships this Winter 2017, the 2018 XF Sportbrake will start at US$70,450 MSRP, with no announced plans for Jaguar's new saloon in Canada.

And that's kind of it, really.

Meanwhile, its sister firm, Land Rover is the first auto company to drive one of its multi-tonne SUVs over a bridge constructed exclusively of paper and to tow a 100-tonne train for 10km along a stretch of railway track in Switzerland.
