Ryanair refunds 98% of customers affected by cancellations

Ryanair refunds 98% of customers affected by cancellations”

Ryanair has been under heavy fire since it announced last month that 2,100 flights would be cancelled in September and October - up to 50 a day - due to an error over pilot holiday rosters.

"We have now refunded/re-accommodated 98% of customers who were impacted in September and October", Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said.

The remaining 2pc have yet to contact the airline.

Ryanair last week announced that it was axing 34 routes across Europe this winter in a move that will hit nearly 400,000 more passengers, as it struggles to contain a roster debacle.

"We again sincerely apologise to our customers for these deeply regretted cancellations".

The Irish low-priced airline said September traffic grew to 11.8 million customers, versus 10.8 million customers in the comparative period the prior year. The remaining 2% of affected customers have yet to contact us.

The airline also said its load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - increased to 97% from 95% in September of previous year.

Ryanair Holdings PLC (LON:RYA) carried nearly 10% more passengers last month even though it cancelled 2,100 flights due to a pilot shortage.

This was short of European rules governing flight cancellations and passenger rights, and Ryanair was eventually forced to bow to regulator demands and spell out the options on offer to affected passengers.
