Accountability court in Islamabad starts hearing into reference against Ishaq Dar”

Later the Court also summoned two others including Tariq Javed and Shahid Aziz on next date of hearing to testify, and adjourned hearing of a reference against Ishaq Dar.

Judge Mohammad Bashir is hearing the case, while accused finance minister has reached the court along with his counsel.

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar Monday moved Islamabad High Court's jurisdiction, seeking stay order against the proceedings of Accountability Court which indicted him for possessing assets beyond known sources of income.

In comparison to the hearing on October 2, when the Rangers had taken over the security of the judicial complex and barred everyone from entering the judicial complex including the interior minister, the police had complete control of the complex on Wednesday and the paramilitary force was nowhere to be seen.

Earlier in the day, the court expressed its reservations on Dar's late arrival to the proceedings and instructed the finance minister to be punctual at the next proceeding.

In his petition to the IHC, Dar had contended that he "appeared before the accountability court on Sept 25, 2017 when the copy of reference along with interim investigation report and documents appended with comprising 23 volumes were supplied to [him]". Justice Athar Minnallah observed that the petitioner should take up any objections with the monitoring judge of the Supreme Court.

While talking to journalists she said Ishaq Dar, Nawaz Sharif and the children were waiting for justice, "We hope that new legal precedents will not be set in their cases". "I don't know if they've left or are still here", she remarked.

The NAB reference was filed against Dar on September 8 on directives of the apex court in Panama papers case.

According to the NAB reference, the accused had acquired assets and pecuniary interests/ resources in his name or in the name of his dependents of an approximate amount of Rs831.678 million as per the investigation conducted so far. He denied all charges and vowed to prove his innocence in the court.

Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar today appeared before an anti-corruption court here to face the graft charges filed against the close aide of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif by the accountability bureau in the Panama Papers scandal.

Dar's counsel, Khawaja Haris, cross-examined Ishtiaq Ali after he recorded his statement against the incumbent finance minister.
