Federation Internationale de Football Association rejects Leicester appeal over Adrien Silva signing

Federation Internationale de Football Association rejects Leicester appeal over Adrien Silva signing”

The Foxes had agreed a deal worth up to €29.5 million to bring in the Portugal global, but the paperwork was subsequently forwarded to world football's governing body after concerns around the deadline being missed.

Leicester reportedly missed the deadline to register Silva by a matter of seconds, meaning Federation Internationale de Football Association refused permission for the move to be completed.

The FA intervened and appealed to FIFA to overturn their decision, but football's governing body have stuck by their original ruling and Silva won't be joining Leicester soon.

The overall upshot is that, while Silva is technically a Leicester player, he won't be allowed to play for them (or anybody else) until the the January transfer window opens and the Foxes can once again apply for approval.

Silva returned to Sporting's Estadio Jose Alvalade on Sunday and wished his former club's fans an emotional farewell before their 0-0 draw with rivals Porto.

The Foxes tried to rush the last-gasp deal through once Chelsea had made their late move on midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

He has been in the stands to watch Leicester play at King Power Stadium and has worked with fitness coaches at the club's Belvoir Drive, but is barred from actually training alongside the Leicester squad.

To add to Silva's disappointment, the 28-year-old was not included in Fernando Santos's Portugal squad for their final two World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Switzerland.
