Las Vegas Concert Shooting Suspect Identified as Stephen Paddock, 64

Las Vegas Concert Shooting Suspect Identified as Stephen Paddock, 64”

A gunman opened fire on a music festival in Las Vegas, leaving 59 people dead and more than 400 injured.

The deadliest shooting in modern USA history took place Sunday night in Las Vegas in part thanks to a legal device that allows any gun owner to circumvent gun laws.

Police and the hotel's security staff were able to zero in on Paddock's location in the hotel by moving floor-to-floor before they approached the large two-room suite from which it appeared the shots were coming.

Authorities said Monday night that a motive for the homicide investigation was still unclear, but that police were "hunting down and tracing down every single clue we can get on his background".

Ballistic experts also commented on the fact that the gun used in the mass shooting at the Las Vegas strip may have been modified.

Paddock was found dead, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, when a police SWAT team burst in to his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel.

"Tonight has been beyond horrific", Aldean captioned an image of Las Vegas with the words "Pray for Las Vegas" emblazoned on it.

The shooting was the third attack on a major music event in recent years.

Witnesses described frantic concertgoers running for their lives as intermittent rounds of bullets rained down on the crowd.

"Mars just fell into the earth", he told NBC News.

In the video, the shooting eventually stopped, and people could be seen filing frantically out of the venue, ducking and screaming as they tried to escape. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. I just want to laugh about things every night.

Ostunio said he realized something was wrong after Aldean abruptly left the stage. "Everybody's hiding everywhere, they're hiding under the bleachers, and the stanchions, and anywhere they could".

He told the Orlando Sentinel: "We are completely dumbfounded". She reportedly left the United States on September 25 and has been located in the Philippines, where she was born.

A Bakersfield police officer was one of the injured.

Trump is scheduled to travel to Las Vegas on Wednesday to meet with first responders and victims' families.

Interstate 15 was briefly closed, and flights at McCarran International Airport were suspended.

"This was a cowardly despicable act that I'm very angry about", Gov. Brian Sandoval said.
