Chinese troops still in Chumbi valley, hope they go back: IAF chief”

Stating that the possibility of a two-front war remains low, ACM Dhanoa, however, said the Indian Air Force (IAF) has adequate capability to tackle threats despite shortage of fighter jets. "Any decision on surgical strike involving the Air Force has to be taken by the government".

"Our air force has the capability to locate, fix and strike across the border", he said on the issue of targeting tactical nuclear weapons of Pakistan. Dhanoa also added that Chinese soldiers were still positioned in Chumbi valley.

"We need 42 squadrons to carry out the full spectrum of operations in case of two-front war".

Dhanoa said that Chinese troops are still present in the Chumbi valley and hoped they will go back soon.

However, Air Chief Marshal denied using force against Naxals and said "we don't use kinetic air power against our people". "With numbers, we've got, we are capable of carrying it out", IAF chief Dhanoa told ANI.

On being asked about the primary concern for the Air Force, BS Dhanoa said that it is losses during the peace time.

He further said that additions are being made to the inventory and the air force will reach fill mandated strength of 42 squadrons by 2032.

Army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat had said last month that the country should be prepared for a two-front war, insisting China has started "lexing its muscles", while there seems to be no scope for reconciliation with Pakistan whose military and polity saw an adversary in India. Air Chief Marshal informed that three trainee women fighter pilots will be inducted in December this year.

"Our losses during peace time are cause of concern. We are making concentrated efforts to minimize accidents& preserve our assets", he added.
