Minnesota man arrested for 28th DUI”

A Minnesota man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated - for the 28th time.

The 64-year-old man was caught driving under the influence of alcohol on Thursday, according to the Star Tribune, after an off-duty officer allegedly saw him drinking in a VFW.

To say law enforcement in Otter Tail County are familiar with Danny Bettcher would be understating things a bit. He then called authorities. Bettcher left the bar and was pulled over when an officer saw him swerving over the road while driving at 10-15 miles per hour, according to charges.

Bettcher told the officer he was "way over" the limit, and that he should take him to jail. If found guilty, the maximum sentence is seven years, according to the Tribune, with the first two-thirds spent in prison.

Bettcher, who had a valid yet restricted driver's license at the time of his arrest, remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail ahead of an October 30 court appearance. Because of the arrest, Bettcher's license is now pending revocation.

Bettcher already served four years behind bars for another drunken driving offense, and he's been ordered to go for treatment at least 12 times. 10 and was swerving.

The officer asked for Bettcher's driver's license. His eyes were bloodshot and watery and a beer was seen behind the passenger seat.

"I am way over", he said.

"I am way over, take me to jail", he said at one point, according to charges.

Bettcher's license was valid at the time of the arrest but included "a restriction that any use of alcohol or drugs invalidates the license", state Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Megan Leonard told the Star Tribune.

Since Tuesday a move to revoke Bettcher's license is pending.

A telephone message was left with Bettcher's attorney seeking a response to the latest allegations. He has also claimed he has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in relation to military service, court filings showed.

During his last stint in prison, Bettcher wrote a filing saying he wanted to get his life back on track prior to his release.
