Mr. Monopoly photobombs ex-Equifax CEO's hearing”

A person dressed up as the iconic character Rich Uncle Pennybags from the famous Monopoly boardgame appeared Wednesday at a Senate hearing about the Equifax data breach with former CEO Richard Smith in Washington, CNBC reported.

Throughout most of the Senate hearing, the "Monopoly Man" could be spotted just off-screen to the right of Smith.

Public Citizen, an advocacy group that monitors government accountability, claimed responsibility for sending the board game mascot to the hearing. The organizations want to raise awareness of Equifax's forced arbitration clauses in their terms of service.

Additionally, Amanda Werner, a campaign manager for Public Citizen, tweeted a photo of herself as the Monopoly man with the following explanation: "The Monopoly Man is here to raise attention to Equifax's get-out-of-jail-free card, forced arb". "They use these ripoff clauses buried in the fine print to ensure that consumers can't join together to hold them accountable in court".

Yahoo disclosed late Tuesday that a 2013 data breach impacted all 3 billion of its accounts, compared with an estimate of more than 1 billion disclosed in December.

The information stolen from Equifax included names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses, the kind of information that could put people at risk for identity theft.

Equifax offered free credit monitoring to affected consumers.

The company also faces several state and federal inquiries and class-action lawsuits.

Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from OH, grilled Smith over forced arbitration in the fine print of the company's products on Wednesday. Werner said an intern arrived at 7 a.m.to save a spot in line.
