The 2017 A5 series consists of three models - A5 Sportback, A5 Cabriolet and the range-topping S5 Sportback at Rs 54.02 lakh, Rs 67.51 lakh and Rs 70.60 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Ltd in the Indian luxury auto segment (those priced between Rs25 lakh and Rs2 crore), Audi India has made 10 new launches this calendar year as it had proposed in February, in a bid to regain the top spot.

Under the hood, the A5 Sportback and the A5 Cabriolet are powered by the 2.0 litre TDI engine, which produces 190Hp and 400Nm of torque.

The A5 Cabriolet rivals the Mercedes-Benz C 300 Cabriolet, while the A5 Sportback will be a more stylish take on the A4, without any direct rivals at this price point.

Audi India will start accepting bookings and commence deliveries for the new models from Thursday.

The two models have a top speed of 235kmph. "The new Audi A5 range will be primarily targeting the young minded population", said Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India. The sedan can achieve 0-100 kmph in 7.9 seconds as per the company. The A5 Cabriolet has the one-touch roof opening function that opens the soft top in 15 seconds and closes it in 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 50kph.

The A5 Sportback gets the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, the A5 Cabriolet the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission with quattro (all-wheel drive), and the S5 Sportback has the eight-speed tiptronic transmission with quattro as standard.

The sportier S5 comes with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that produces 354 PS and 500 Nm but is mated to an 8-speed transmission sending power to all four wheels using the Quattro system.

The S5 Sportback will face competition from Volvo's S60 Polestar and Mercedes-AMG's C 43 Coupe.
