Scotland keep World Cup dream alive with late victor”

Scotland will wear their pink away strip for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Slovakia, according to the Scottish Sun.

But spurred on by a passionate home crowd, Scotland refused to give in and got their just rewards on 88 minutes when substitute Ikechi Anya raced into the box and his low cross was turned past his own keeper by Skrtel.

Slovakia were reduced to ten men after 23 minutes when Robert Mak was show a second yellow card but despite dominating possession Scotland struggled to make the breakthrough.

Substitute Chris Martin and Leigh Griffiths both his the crossbar with strikes after the break and with Slovakia keeper Martin Dubravka having a remarkable night in goals it looked like it would be another hard luck story.

Slovakia are second in Group F, a point ahead of Slovenia and Scotland. In that match, Slovakia won against Scotland with 3-0 goals.

Victories over both Slovakia and Slovenia this week would secure second spot in Group F and a likely two-legged encounter in November for a place in Russian Federation next summer.

Scotland must win their final two qualifiers to maintain their hopes of reaching next year's finals in Russian Federation.

There was a penalty claim in the ninth minute when Kieran Tierney, again playing at right-back, appeared to be body-checked by Mak inside the Slovakia box but referee Mazic was unimpressed.

Slovakia initially steadied the ship well after going down to 10, although they still needed Dubravka to keep out Griffiths' curling attempt as the first half ended level. Bannan has been capped 24 times by his country.

In a 60th-minute reshuffle, Strachan replaced Forrest with burly striker Martin and moments later Dubravka made a remarkable save from Griffiths' 25-yard thunderbolt at the expense of a corner which came to nothing.
