Delhi Boys Die Of Suffocation After 9 Hours In A Locked Car”

In a case of major negligence, a family suffered a double tragedy when two minor cousins died of suffocation in a locked vehicle in west Delhi's Ranhola on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a relative unlocked the auto in which the children were stuck and found them in an unconscious state with burn injuries on their bodies. "Primary medical examination suggested death due to suffocation", a police officer said.

The cab driver, Raju, lived with the family and on Wednesday afternoon, allegedly left the auto unlocked when he went to his room to sleep.

The cab was reportedly owned by the father of one of the boys. Around 10 pm, the investigating officer asked the family members to go home and return with the photographs of the children.

The police say on realizing that he had left his auto unlocked, he remote-locked it using his key. Police identified the boys as Sonu (4) and Raj (5), both residents of Dass Garden in Ranhola. The police believe that they apparently fell asleep inside. A missing persons complaint was filed at the Ranhola police station. "It was first suspected they had been kidnapped". They returned home to pick up the photos and take to the police.

The children were later found inside a vehicle, which reportedly belongs to their father. "The post-mortem report said they died due to suffocation", DCP (outer) Pankaj Singh said. The boys were rushed to the hospital but it was too late. No case has been registered so far.
