Father of Vegas shooter was bank robber”

Paddock was named as the Las Vegas shooter who killed at least 59 people and injured 527 more in what has been described as the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Eric Paddock, Stephen Paddock's brother, said the family was estranged from Benjamin Paddock after Eric's birth, and Benjamin Paddock is now deceased.

Stephen Paddock's brother, Eric, told reporters outside his Orlando, Florida, home Monday that their father was not around during their childhood.

At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Benjamin Paddock used a host of aliases, and was also known as "Chromedome" and "Old Baldy", according to his "Wanted" poster. He was accused of stealing close to $25,000.

The elder Paddock landed on the infamous list after he escaped from a Texas federal prison in 1960 where he had reportedly been serving a 20 year sentence for bank robbery.

In 1977, Paddock was removed from the Most Wanted list, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Stephen Paddock's father, Benjamin Hoskins, was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted List and described as "psychopathic" and "armed and risky", the New York Times reports.

Paddock was involved in an armed robbery at a bank in San Francisco about six months after the escape.

While awaiting trial, he went off and managed to live a secret life as a bingo parlor manager in Springfield, Ore. Paddock remained on the most-wanted list until 1977. He constantly changed his appearance and avoided contact with police, the Eugene Register-Guard reported.

During the closing performance by singer Jason Aldean at a packed outdoor concert, a gunman located on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino across Las Vegas Boulevard opened fire into the festival crowd.

He was eventually caught in 1978 but was released in less than a year.

He was caught in 1978, living under an assumed name in OR, where he managed a bingo parlor, according to a news report from after his arrest in the Eugene Register Guard newspaper.

He settled the racketeering charges for $623,000 and pleaded no contest to the odometer case.
