GoFundMe for Vegas shooting victims raises $3M in 24 hours”

If you live in the Las Vegas area, you can volunteer transportation and other help to victims through this Facebook page.

At least 59 people were killed and almost 530 others wounded Sunday when Stephen Paddock opened fire from a nearby hotel high rise on a large crowd attending a country music concert in Las Vegas.

The death toll has risen to more than 58 and more than 500 injured concertgoers who were among 22,000 attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival when the gunman opened fire with a military-style rifle. But Las Vegas officials have set up just one official verified GoFundme to help the victims.

"Funds will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting", Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak wrote in his description of the fundraiser. Within hours, donations had rocketed past that number and the goal was raised to $1 million.

"We are raising funds to assist the victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting".

An anonymous donation added $500,000, while Bill McBeath - CEO of the Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas - contributed another $100,000.

The money "has been donated by generous people around the country that... care about what we're doing", Sisolak said in a news conference on Monday evening. The current Nevada governor is Republican Brian Sandoval.
