Minnesota man lived with 'mummified' bodies of mother and twin brother; charged with interference with a dead body or scene for not telling police they died of natural caused”

- Prosecutors say a White Bear Lake man lived with the decomposing bodies of his mother and twin brother for nearly a year.

- He sent out a Christmas card saying his mother and brother were still alive but were having health problems.

Before the bodies were discovered Kuefler got very creative with keeping people at bay who wanted to stop by to see his mother or brother.

Reports say the mother's body was decomposed and skeletal while the brother's body was "mummified". Downstairs in the basement, they found the body of his twin brother, Richard John Kuefler, which had reached the point of mummification.

Though charges were not filed against him at the time, Kuefler was charged this week with interference with a dead body or scene of death and for neglecting to tell authorities about the deaths.

Autopsies showed that both of Kuefler's family members died of natural causes.

Kuefler said he knew his mother was dying, but "didn't want to be around when she died, so he left the house to drive around a couple of hours".

The bodies remained inside the home for a year with Kuefler living beside them.

But he couldn't bring himself to bury them, so he kept them in the house.

According to a complaint, his mother's body was found decayed and skeletal while his brother's body was "mummified" when it was found a year ago.

Kuefler was a caretaker for both his ailing mother and brother.
