Wounded congressman Steve Scalise to throw out first pitch in playoff game

Wounded congressman Steve Scalise to throw out first pitch in playoff game”

In June, Scalise - along with several others, U.S. Capitol Police officers included - was severely wounded in an Alexandria shooting while practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game.

On Friday, the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals will kick off their best-of-five National League Division Series. They were joined by two other victims from the shooting, congressional aide Zachary Barth and lobbyist Matt Mika.

Scalise, the House majority whip, was shot in the hip while practicing with his Republican teammates in a Virginia suburb in June. He is still undergoing rehabilitation and has been using crutches and a motorized scooter to get around.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) threw the ceremonial first pitch at Friday night's playoff game between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs.

He returned to the Capitol in September for the first time since being seriously wounded and said his prayers had been answered during his recovery process. Returning to the field at Nationals Park, where the charity driven Congressional Baseball Game has been played every year since it opened in 2008, had to be every bit as important.
