Britain is 'preparing a battle plan for war with North Korea'”

Among the plans disclosed by the Daily Mail is the deployment of the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, before it has undergone flight trials.

Prior to the meeting in Scotland, Mr Stoltenberg said North Korea's "reckless behaviour is a global threat and requires a global response and that of course also includes Nato".

"Britain's new aircraft carrier could be pressed into service early if things turn south".

The UK has secretly started drawing up plans for war with North Korea, the Daily Mail has revealed.

Under one scenario being planned by the British military is deploying HMS Queen Elizabeth, along with 12 F-35B fighter jets, to join USA warships off the Korean peninsula.

The Independent has contacted the Ministry of Defence for comment but none had arrived at the time of publication.

HMS Queen Elizabeth is not due to enter service until 2020, but she will be commissioned at the end of this year. In this case [North Korea], the UK would be part of a united global coalition. "We would see what support we could give".

Last week Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon told the Tory Party conference: 'North Korea's illegal testing underlines just how irresponsible it would be to scrap the deterrent that protects us.

Leading the worldwide condemnation, US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis vowed to meet any threat to America with "a massive military response".

Days later the state-run Korea Central News Agency reportedly carried remarks from a spokesman for the Korea-Europe Association, claiming Mr Fallon "pigheadedly branded the DPRK's nuclear deterrence as a threat to the United Kingdom and even dared to impugn the dignity of our supreme leadership", adding that, "this is an act that can never be tolerated". It said the country was "watching [the UK's] moves carefully with due vigilance".

The US President said that only one thing will work when it comes to dealing with North Korea, while the regime in Pyongyang has constantly warned it will attack if it feels threatened by America.

The British plans emerged as South Korea was getting ready to build a "blackout bomb", a non-lethal graphite weapon that could destroy North Korea's electricity grid when dropped, Yonhap news agency reported.
