Congress need to select leaders on calibre: Jaitley

The demonetisation has resulted in a sharp reduction in insurgent and "terror" activities in Jammu and Kashmir where stone throwers were no longer active in the last 8-10 months, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.

Several engagements have been planned during the Finance Minister's visit to the US. There he will take part in a roundtable investment meet on "Indian Economy - The Road Ahead". Responding to questions after delivering his key note address via video conference, to the Berkeley India Conference, Jaitley said Congress party which ruled the country for decades is out of sync with the ground realities and aspirations of India.

During his three-day stay in Washington, Jaitley will hold bilateral meetings with U.S. commerce secretary and participate in an interactive seminar organised by FICCI.

Arun Jaitley, union minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, will attend the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the United States and also speak at a slew of investor meets, highlighting the major policy decisions of the Narendra Modi-led government. It will be attended by senior officials representing institutional investors, financial institutions, investment banks and think tanks. Later, he will participate in the 96th meeting of the Development Committee Plenary and will return to India on October 16. Jaitley will also attend the G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors' working dinner and plenary, G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors.

These meetings will be critical to strengthening bilateral co-operation between businesses in the two countries.

The delegation comprises industry and business heads from diversified sectors.

The members of the delegation include Ficci Secretary General Sanjaya Baru, Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman Rajan Bharti Mittal and Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Chairman, Sun International.
