Hughesy and Kate set to replace Hamish and Andy

Kate then assured her co-host that she was only joking, and took a playful jab at the KIIS Network National Content Director Duncan Campbell, by playing the Slim Dusty classic 'Duncan'.

Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek will defect from the KIIS Network to replace Hamish and Andy in their Hit drivetime slot.

The pressure has been on SCA to secure appropriate talent to ensure it holds strong in the prime time drive slot, ever since the pair's exit was announced at last year's Channel Nine Upfronts. The show will debut in January 2018.

As a result of the defection, KIIS and ARN have gone into crisis mode, announcing "bold strategic plans" for 2018 in a major shakeup of their national lineup.

In their place comes Jason Hawkins and Polly Harding aka "Jase & PJ" who "will be bringing their highly successful "Always Awkward" brand of content and #1 show to KIIS 101.1 Breakfast in 2018", which is a real-life sentence that somebody wrote.

"We are delighted one of radio's most enduring and hilarious duets, Hughesy and Kate, are joining our new Drive line up for 2018", the Hit Network confirmed.

In a radio first the new extended Drive show programming, with four of Australia's most loved and entertaining personalities, will broadcast to all 43 Hit Network radio stations, reaching an unrivalled 4.6 million listeners each week (3 million metro and 1.56 million in regional Australia), with a broad reach across all key audience segments, particularly women of all ages.

The TL;DR of all this is that there's big doings going on in Melbourne radio.

The boys from Melbourne now host Perth's Hit 92.9 breakfast show in Perth.

Southern Cross Austereo made the announcement this morning, minutes after ARN revealed changes coming to the KIIS Network next year.
