Hulu bets on esports with new shows”

ESL has today announced that it has partnered with Hulu to bring esports content to a streaming video on-demand service for the first time.

The new shows will "explore the various facets of eSports, including athlete training and preparation, news and industry trends, and coverage of ESL's tournaments", the companies said in their announcement.

Hulu suggested that its users-especially those who view on consoles-are "hungry" for esports content.

For the first time, Hulu will be diving into the growing spectacle that is esports by delivering four original shows to subscribers.

The first of the shows, Player V. Player, will bring together esports personalities and respected analysts for engaging discussions about popular topics, much like a sports segment that discusses different teams and players.

Bootcamp: a documentary series that follows one of the great CS:GO teams (The Immortals) through scrimmages and practice sessions, as well as life at the team house, in the lead-up to the Intel Extreme Masters Oakland tournament at Oracle Arena in November. With the tournament just weeks away, and now three players short of a full team, The Immortals must find new talent and quickly build a cohesive team. The series will provide an inside look into the team and their players as they work to improve their teamwork and head towards esports competitions. Each episode is centered on a specific theme for the week, whether trick-shots and insane reflex skills, controversial moves and their impact on gaming history, or long-lasting rivalries and how they came to be.

"The partnership with Hulu marks ESL's first original series on an on-demand streaming service, and will showcase the diverse nature of esports through high quality storytelling", said Nik Adams, Senior Vice President of Global Media Rights and Distribution, ESL. Each episode will air within a week of the live event.
