International Olympic Committee retests 254 doping samples of Russian athletes from 2010 Winter Olympics

International Olympic Committee retests 254 doping samples of Russian athletes from 2010 Winter Olympics”

A new athlete has failed a doping test during a new analysis of 1195 samples of the olympic Games of Vancouver in 2010.

"Three adverse analytical findings (AAFs), all coming from one athlete, are being taken forward for results management", according to the IOC. It did provide any details of the athlete in question, nor of his or her sport or nationality.

More than 1,000 samples have been re-tested from the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Games, revealing 106 positive results and seeing 75 medals redistributed.

The governing body had until February 2018 to conduct a retesting programme for the 2010 Games, with an eight-year statute of limitation for anti-doping cases.

The worldwide olympic Committee has announced three new positive tests from the same athlete is not identified.

The IOC said no decision had yet been taken on whether the athlete would be charged with an anti-doping violation, though.

"The Vancouver 2010 reanalysis program was done in full cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency and with the help and support of stakeholders such as International Federations and experts", he added.

The decision to re-analyse those samples came as a result of the McLaren Report which alleged systematic state sponsored doping by Russian Federation and identified sample manipulation during the Sochi Games.
