Woman leaves 3-year-old child in hot vehicle while visiting inmate”

Corrections employees spotted the child outside the jail's video visitation center as they were making rounds. The vehicle was locked, turned off and the windows were slightly opened.

Deputies said the vehicle's windows were partially lowered, but its internal temperature was 91 degrees with a heat index of 110 degrees.

A woman was arrested Sunday, accused of leaving her toddler alone in a vehicle outside of the Orange County Jail for nearly 20 minutes as temperatures reached 91 degrees.

A mother in Orlando, Florida has been arrested after leaving her three-year-old daughter in a locked auto on a scorching hot day while visiting a prisoner at the Orange County Jail, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

A staff member patrolling the parking lot noticed the girl and freed her. Deputies said she was sweating heavily but otherwise uninjured.

Etienne reportedly admitted that she left the child alone. Earlier in the day, Etiennne sat in the jail lobby with her back to reporters.

The 21-year-old mother is charged with child neglect. "It was a good twenty minutes, at least", Michelle Brown said. Her daughter has been placed in the custody of a family member by the Florida Department of Children and Families, FOX35 reported.
