An Ex-Hockeyroo Star Faked Terminal Cancer Diagnosis & Defrauded Charityā€¯

A former Hockeyroo who claimed to be terminally ill has admitted to forging medical certificates and letters she sent to a cancer charity.

The former sports star, 32, told co-workers she had "months" to live after being diagnosed with cancer, and accepted the generosity of a Perth parent who had lost their child to cancer, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. She continued to collect a salary of $73,000.

At the end of 2015, she asked for a transfer to Redkite's Sydney office on compassionate grounds.

Hubble's scheme began in 2014 after she started working as a team coordinator for Redkite, a charity that offers support and counselling for cancer sufferers.

Hubble forged letters from medical personnel. "In an event of a serious injury an ambulance should be called".

Hubble claimed a portion of her liver and a tumour from her kidney had been removed and said in a text message: "I might get 6 months [to live]".

"Redkite has provided every assistance to the NSW Police in investigating this matter", the charity said in a statement.

"Redkite states that the position in the Sydney office would not have been created had Ms Hubble not informed them she had terminal cancer", the agreed facts state.

Hubble will be sentenced for two counts of making a false documents for gain financial advantage and two counts of using the same documents at Downing Centre Local Court next Tuesday.
